La Union Suspends Classes, Government Work Under Orange Rainfall Warning

CALASIAO, Pangasinan — Government work and in-person classes in nearby La Union remained suspended on Wednesday, Aug. 5, as the province continues to be under an Orange rainfall warning. The warning was issued by the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) due to the effects of a low-pressure area. Pagasa stated that the low-pressure area could bring continuous heavy rains to La Union and surrounding areas, increasing the risk of floods and landslides. The agency urged residents to monitor the latest weather updates and take necessary safety precautions. Such suspensions of classes and government work due to weather advisories are common in the Philippines, especially during the rainy season, reflecting the administration's priority on ensuring public safety.
