Cambodia Urges Youth to Cultivate Knowledge, Skills, and Virtues for Future National Development

Phnom Penh – Mr. Pen Bona, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister and Chairman of the Government Spokesperson Unit, urged Cambodian youth to cultivate not only specialized knowledge and skills but also discipline, morality, loyalty, and patriotism, as crucial elements for national development. Speaking at a lecture on "Youth Contributions Towards Achieving Cambodia's 2050 Vision" at the Techo Sen Regional Polytechnic Institute in Takeo province, Mr. Bona emphasized that self-driven learning is the most significant driver for youth to lead their lives towards a bright future and become the capable human capital the government desires. He stressed that youth must remember to not only strengthen themselves with genuine knowledge and skills but also to be individuals with discipline, morality, loyalty, and true patriotism. He called for their active participation with the government in achieving Cambodia's 2050 vision. Mr. Bona highlighted that the Seventh Legislature of the National Assembly, led by Prime Minister Hun Manet, has implemented the "Pentagon Strategy," with the first angle focusing on human capital development. This strategy aims to provide opportunities and value to human resources, especially empowering youth for self-development. Therefore, he urged all young people to strive in their studies and seize this exceptional opportunity. He elaborated that learning should go "beyond knowing," meaning it's not just about acquiring theoretical knowledge for a diploma, but about possessing the ability to apply knowledge and solve problems in practical, flexible ways. Strengthening knowledge and skills will equip youth to be resilient and fully prepared for a highly competitive job market. Those with genuine capabilities can not only create opportunities for themselves but also contribute to national social and economic development. Alongside academic and skill development, Mr. Bona reminded the audience that discipline, morality, and loyalty are core values that must walk hand-in-hand with knowledge and skills to build youth into high-quality, responsible human capital. He particularly noted that in the current context where the nation faces territorial incursions, fostering patriotism is increasingly vital for the new generation. Young people should participate in maintaining solidarity, trust the government's leadership, and contribute to defending national sovereignty and interests, in accordance with their roles and capabilities.
