Cambodia Focuses on Resolving Citizen Issues and Improving Livelihoods in Malai District

Phnom Penh, Banteay Meanchey, July 6, 2026 -- Responding to the actual needs and resolving all concerns of the people at the grassroots level is an indispensable primary mission. This was clearly emphasized by H.E. Chan Sovuth, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and Head of the Royal Government Working Group for Malai District, at a meeting to review and summarize the results of resolving requests and proposals from citizens, held on the morning of July 6, 2026. This important meeting was organized by the Malai District Administration, co-chaired by H.E. Chan Sovuth and H.E. Ouk Ratree, Governor of Banteay Meanchey Province, represented by Mr. Chheun Kraiyong, Deputy Governor of the province. The meeting was attended by the District Governor, relevant provincial departments and units, all three types of armed forces, and a large number of commune and village authorities from across the district. Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Chheun Kraiyong, Deputy Governor of Banteay Meanchey Province, expressed his admiration and high appreciation for the efforts of all levels of local authorities who have closely cooperated with the working group supporting the grassroots in grasping the well-being and actual needs of the people. To continue this work with greater effectiveness and in line with the policy of prioritizing the well-being of the people, H.E. Chan Sovuth provided guidance and set key directions for resolving issues accurately. All relevant departments, units, and local authorities must jointly review all remaining requests and implement them in accordance with legal principles, procedures, and normative documents to respond to the needs of the people quickly, legally, and precisely. High attention must be paid to providing administrative and public services to the people with transparency, accountability, and honesty, thereby fostering a sense of warmth and doubling the trust of the people in the authorities. To promote the agricultural sector and livelihoods, as Malai District has high potential in agriculture, the working group and authorities must go down to provide direct technical guidance and resolve challenges related to water sources and agricultural markets to further improve the living standards of the people. They must jointly continue to strengthen the implementation of the "Safe Village-Commune-District" policy. Absolutely, drug offenses, illegal gambling, and hooliganism must be eradicated to ensure peace and social order for the people. In addition, H.E. the Head of the Royal Government Working Group for Malai District emphasized and requested all members to further actively and vigorously implement their respective roles and responsibilities. H.E. also wished the entire meeting good health and success in all their duties serving the nation and the people. This summary meeting demonstrates the high attention of the Royal Government to listening and resolving the concerns of the people from the bottom up, which is an important mechanism for sustainable local development.
