Vietnam and Bangladesh held a business forum to further growth beyond their bilateral trade exceeding $1 billion. The event aims to strengthen cooperation in various sectors including agriculture, textiles, and logistics, leveraging the economic complementarity between the two nations.

Vietnam and Bangladesh are strengthening their economic ties, aiming to expand trade beyond the current milestone of over $1 billion. On July 25, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam, in coordination with the Vietnam Business Association in Bangladesh, organized the "Bangladesh-Vietnam Business Trading Forum 2026" and B2B trade connection program in Hanoi. The event, themed "Exploiting Potential, Consolidating Trust, Towards Common Success," sought to foster collaboration between businesses from both nations. The forum attracted 33 Bangladeshi enterprises participating in person and approximately 90 enterprises joining online. Around 160-200 Vietnamese businesses, active in sectors such as agricultural products and food, textiles, logistics, technology, raw materials, consumer goods, and export support services, were also in attendance. Bangladesh is currently Vietnam's second-largest trading partner in the South Asian region. After 53 years of diplomatic relations, cooperation between the two countries has continuously strengthened across numerous fields, particularly in economy, trade, and investment. With a population exceeding 170 million and serving as a crucial gateway to South Asia, Bangladesh is recognized as a market with significant potential for Vietnamese goods, offering deeper access to Islamic markets. In turn, Vietnam possesses strengths in industrial production, agricultural processing, consumer goods, textiles, technology, and logistics. The complementary nature of the two economies is expected to lay the foundation for expanding supply chains and promoting sustainable bilateral trade. Vo Hong Anh, Deputy Director of the Department of Foreign Market Development under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, stated that while bilateral trade exceeding $1 billion in recent years is an encouraging result, it remains modest relative to the economic scale, population, and market potential of both countries. This indicates substantial room for cooperation and broad opportunities for future development. Representatives from the Vietnam Business Association in Bangladesh also noted that the 53-year diplomatic relationship provides favorable conditions for businesses to expand cooperation in agriculture, forestry, fisheries, textiles, logistics, and supporting industries, as well as to seek investment and technology transfer opportunities. Mr. Lutfor Rahman, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of Bangladesh to Vietnam, highlighted that bilateral economic cooperation has seen significant positive developments. The two countries have signed nearly 40 agreements, memorandums of understanding, and joint declarations, with economic cooperation consistently identified as a priority. The Ambassador emphasized that Bangladesh and Vietnam possess complementary strengths. Combining Bangladesh's production capacity, competitive labor force, and large consumer market with Vietnam's industrial prowess, regional connectivity, and dynamic business environment will contribute to building an adaptable economic partnership that yields long-term benefits for both nations. From a business perspective, Mr. Vuong Van Dien, CEO of a textile and garment enterprise, advised that due to lower labor costs in Bangladesh, it is a highly competitive market. He suggested that Vietnamese enterprises should focus on high-value-added products rather than directly competing in the mass market segment. He also stressed the need for thorough market research and supportive mechanisms to mitigate risks when expanding operations into new markets. Ms. Tran Ha May, founder of Dai Viet Tra Hoa Co., Ltd., expressed her hope to find opportunities through the forum to introduce Vietnamese processed agricultural products into the Bangladeshi market, while also promoting Vietnamese agricultural culture and stories to local consumers. She added that each market has unique characteristics, requiring increased cooperation, information sharing, and joint problem-solving between businesses from both countries to achieve greater trading efficiency. The forum's organization is seen as a significant step in helping businesses understand each other's capabilities, find partners, and foster long-term cooperation. Amidst global supply chain shifts, enhanced connectivity between Vietnamese and Bangladeshi businesses is expected to boost bilateral trade, open new cooperation avenues in investment, logistics, technology, and Halal market development, thereby driving substantial and sustainable growth in economic relations between the two countries.
