Over 1,500 Weight-Loss Pens Seized in Thailand Valued at Over 5.5 Million Baht

In central Thailand, approximately 1,500 high-value weight-loss injection pens, believed to be illegally imported and sold, have been seized from a condominium unit. The total value of these seized products exceeds 5.5 million baht (approximately 22 million yen). This seizure highlights the reality of illicit distribution of beauty and health-related products within Thailand. Particularly, high-priced weight-loss injection pens popular overseas are frequently found circulating via the internet and other channels without undergoing proper import procedures. Authorities have expressed concerns regarding the possibility of these products being counterfeit and the associated health risks. The seized pens are believed to be of a specific brand, and it is presumed that many of them are items that cannot be obtained without a doctor's prescription. This investigation aims to disrupt the distribution channels of such illegal products and protect consumers. In recent years, interest in cosmetic surgery and weight loss has surged in Thailand, leading to an expanding market in related sectors. However, some areas have lagged behind in regulation, and this incident clearly demonstrates the risks present in such a situation. Authorities plan to strengthen similar crackdowns in the future.
