China's Wuxi Pledges Increased Investment in Cambodia's Sihanoukville SEZ

PHNOM PENH, Aug 2, 2026 (KPT) — China’s Wuxi City has pledged to encourage more firms to invest in Cambodia’s Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone (SSEZ), reaffirming support for one of the flagship industrial cooperation projects between the two countries, officials said Friday. The commitment was made during a meeting between Chea Vuthy, Secretary General of the Cambodian Investment Board of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, and a delegation led by Zhou Wendong, Vice Mayor of Wuxi in Jiangsu Province. Vuthy thanked Wuxi authorities for promoting investment in the SSEZ and stressed the need to accelerate the Cambodia–China Industrial and Technology Corridor and the Fish and Rice Corridor to attract more projects and diversify export markets. He urged Wuxi to encourage investment in raw materials and intermediate goods to strengthen supply chain stability. Zhou expressed appreciation for Cambodian government support, saying it had enabled steady growth of the SSEZ. He reaffirmed Wuxi’s commitment to promote the zone by drawing more investors from Jiangsu and Wuxi into priority projects. The visit also prepared for the upcoming 5th Meeting of the Coordination Committee of the SSEZ, to be held in Wuxi. Zhou proposed measures to further enhance the zone’s development and investment appeal.
