Any political process without Daw Aung San Suu Kyi will not gain public trust, NLD states

Ayeyarwaddy Times July 20 The National League for Democracy (NLD) Central Executive Committee today, July 20, issued a statement saying that it will be difficult to gain public trust unless representative political forces, including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the National League for Democracy (NLD), who hold the people's trust and legitimate transferred power, are fully involved in resolving the current political deadlock in Myanmar. It stated that it welcomes the continued endorsement of the efforts of the United Nations, ASEAN, and friendly countries, as well as the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus, as the main framework for peacefully resolving Myanmar's political deadlock. The NLD pointed out the necessity of ending violence, the unconditional and swift release of all political prisoners, including State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, ensuring humanitarian assistance reaches those in need, and holding inclusive dialogues to overcome the current situation. "The continued detention of political prisoners remains a major obstacle in resolving Myanmar's crisis, and only when they can participate freely in discussions can the cessation of conflict be accelerated," the statement said. The NLD stated that the fundamental principle of "inclusivity" will only be effective if the NLD party and its leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, who were elected by the people with an overwhelming majority in the 2020 general election, and internationally recognized forces are included. Furthermore, the statement warned that the root cause of Myanmar's problem is the seizure of power by force against the will of the people, and while ASEAN needs to be realistic in its engagement, it must be especially careful not to reach the stage of recognizing the administrative machinery that emerged from a "sham election." The National League for Democracy has always maintained that political problems must be resolved through political means, through negotiation and dialogue. The NLD Central Executive Committee's statement said that the construction of a future democratic federal union, national reconciliation, and peace processes must be based solely on the will of the people, democratic principles, and the rule of law.
