Weekly Fuel Subsidy Releases Climb to P60M as Aid for Public Transport Continues

The Department of Energy (DOE) said on Monday that there's an increase in the weekly funding for the government's fuel subsidy program as it continues this month. DOE Oil Industry Management Bureau Director Rino Abad said that P663,556,833.50 worth of fuel subsidy has been availed since the start of the program. "We have continued the program this month. There is, in fact, an increase in the release of such funds, averaging now at around P60 million per week," he said in a press briefing. Moreover, 101,124 public utility vehicles have benefited from the program so far. The government earlier raised the fuel discount from P10 per liter to P12 per liter starting August 15. Qualified beneficiaries can save as much as ₱1,800 per week with the fuel discount. The DOE earlier announced that it will continue the program this month, as the implementation will depend on a monthly review. "The arrangement will be reviewed every month," said Abad. Based on DOE's latest data, the country's fuel supply is expected to last for 53 days.
