Hanoi Accelerates DNA Identification and Return of Martyrs' Remains

Hanoi City issued directives on August 2nd to accelerate the process of collecting samples and returning the remains of fallen soldiers within the city. The Municipal Steering Committee for Searching, Collecting, and Identifying Martyrs' Remains released Official Document No. 11/CV-BCĐ, urging relevant agencies to respond promptly. These directives are part of a nationwide campaign, dubbed the '500 Days and Nights Campaign,' aimed at intensifying the search, collection, and identification of martyrs' remains. Provinces such as Nghe An, Lam Dong, and Quang Ngai have previously conducted similar intensive campaigns, achieving notable results. The campaign's objective is to identify and return the remains of numerous soldiers lost during the war to their families, thereby honoring their sacrifices and promoting national psychological well-being. Under Vietnam's one-party system, the state often positions the memory of war as a crucial element for national unity. The identification and repatriation of remains are expected to foster patriotism among citizens and enhance loyalty to the government. The Prime Minister has also previously emphasized the importance of this campaign for collecting and identifying remains, directing its vigorous promotion. This initiative not only commemorates past sacrifices but is also considered to play a role in fostering national solidarity and strengthening national identity within the context of Vietnam's current economic growth and social development.
