BFAR Awards P16.5M Projects to Pangasinan Coastal Communities

DAGUPAN CITY – The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in the Ilocos Region distributed P16.5 million in projects to local governments and fisherfolk in various coastal towns of Pangasinan on Monday during the Dagupan leg of the Handog ng Pangulo program. BFAR Regional Director Remely Lachica led the distribution of 25-foot fiberglass-reinforced motorized boats and other livelihood projects. Lachica said the projects are aimed at improving the productivity and income of fisherfolk in the province. "We hope that these projects will help our fisherfolk to have better livelihoods and contribute to the food security of the country," she said. Pangasinan is one of the major fishing grounds in the Philippines. The province's coastal communities are heavily dependent on fishing for their livelihood.
