LPA's Trough Brings Rain to Southern Luzon, Eastern Visayas

The trough of a low-pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine area of responsibility is affecting parts of Southern Luzon and Eastern Visayas, the state weather bureau said on Wednesday. In a 5 p.m. weather forecast, weather specialist Benison Estareja said the LPA was last located 940 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon as of 3 p.m. He noted that it has a “high chance” of developing into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours. “Its trough is bringing rains in some areas in the country, including Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, and Romblon where light to moderate with at times heavy rains are possible overnight,” Estareja said. He added that the rest of Luzon will see cloudy skies with chances of localized thunderstorms starting Wednesday afternoon. Meanwhile, rains due to southwest monsoon are affecting Palawan, western portion of Visayas, Negros Island Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Region, and Soccsksargen. Estareja shared that the effects of the LPA’s trough will continue to prevail over huge portions of Southern Luzon on Thursday. “We’re seeing cloudy skies over Bicol Region, Marinduque, Romblon, Quezon, Mindoro provinces,” he added. The rest of Luzon will see cloudy skies with fair weather at times, especially in the western part of Northern and Central Luzon.
