Indonesia to Mandate Nutritional Information Labels on Beverages

Indonesia's Ministry of Health has decided to mandate the display of special stickers indicating nutritional levels on beverage products. This initiative aims to enhance public health awareness and contribute to the prevention of lifestyle diseases. According to spokesperson Budi, the nutritional information levels will be differentiated through special stickers. The Ministry of Health is currently coordinating with regional governments (Pemda) to implement this system gradually. Detailed guidelines regarding specific display methods and the types of beverages subject to this regulation are expected to be formulated in the future. This measure is based on the recognition that excessive consumption of beverages high in sugar and fat has contributed to the rise of lifestyle diseases such as obesity and diabetes in Indonesia. By enabling the public to easily grasp nutritional information at the point of purchase, it is expected to encourage healthier beverage choices. Regional governments, such as the Jakarta Provincial Government (DKI Jakarta), are promoting their own policies for public health improvement.
