Former Zambales Governor Amor Deloso Dies at 87

SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — Former Zambales governor and longtime public servant Amor Deloso has died at the age of 87. Deloso’s family confirmed his passing on Monday. The cause of death was not immediately disclosed. He passed away peacefully, according to his family. A prominent figure in Zambales politics for decades, Deloso served multiple terms as governor and was known for his extensive career in public service. His political journey began as the mayor of Botolan from 1972 to 1986. Following the 1986 People Power Revolution, he was appointed OIC (officer-in-charge) governor of Zambales. He was subsequently elected governor in 1988 and served three consecutive terms until 1998. Deloso returned to the provincial capitol as governor from 2007 to 2010 and again from 2016 to 2019, making him one of the province’s longest-serving provincial leaders. Deloso sought to regain the governorship in the 2010, 2013, 2019, and 2022 elections but was defeated by Gov. Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. Throughout his political career, Deloso championed infrastructure development, health care, education, agriculture, and environmental protection in Zambales. He was also recognized for promoting tourism and preserving the province’s natural resources.
