Woman's Photo and Personal Items Found in Unidentified Martyr's Grave in Quang Ngai

Personal effects, including a woman's photograph, a watch, and a pen, have been discovered within the grave of an unidentified martyr at the Dak Ha Martyrs' Cemetery in Dak Ha commune, Quang Ngai province, central Vietnam. On the morning of September 13, the No. 10 Sample Collection Team from the Quang Ngai Provincial Border Guard Command exhumed the grave of an unidentified martyr to collect biological samples for DNA identification. Inside the grave, authorities found a booklet labeled "Album," containing a woman's photograph approximately 3x2 cm and a one-hao banknote from the State Bank of Vietnam. Two fountain pens were also found; one was inscribed with "Thanh 6/11/1971," which officials believe could be a key clue to identifying the martyr. Other recovered items include a metal watch, an aluminum comb, a lighter, nail clippers, a cylindrical plastic container about 5 cm long and 1 cm wide, and a metal necklace. The No. 10 Team has collected, preserved, and digitized information on these artifacts. The collected biological samples will undergo DNA testing, with results to be cross-referenced against family records, gene databases, and other relevant information to determine the martyr's identity. The Quang Ngai Provincial Steering Committee for Searching, Collecting, and Identifying Martyrs' Remains has requested that veterans, martyrs' relatives, and individuals with information regarding these artifacts contact the number 0397.007.500. This sampling activity is part of the "500-Day Campaign to Accelerate the Search, Collection, and Identification of Martyrs' Remains," aimed at commemorating the 80th anniversary of Vietnamese War Heroes and Martyrs Day. The campaign's objectives include searching for and collecting approximately 7,000 martyrs' remains, collecting samples from about 230,000 unidentified graves, conducting DNA identification on approximately 18,000 remains, and building a gene database of relatives for matching purposes.
