Indonesia Urges BRICS to Elevate Global Value Chain Position

Indonesian President Prabowo has strongly urged BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) member states to jointly pursue industrialization and optimize supply chains to elevate their positions within the global value chain (GVC). Liputan6.com, Jakarta - At a BRICS summit, President Prabowo asserted that BRICS nations should enhance their standing in the GVC by sharing and strengthening cooperation in their respective resources, production capacities, technologies, and markets. He emphasized that industrial cooperation among BRICS countries is crucial for attracting investment, bolstering industrial foundations, and creating more employment opportunities. "BRICS has already formed a supply chain. Our task is to connect and optimize this existing power so that it can become a greater source of value for all of us," President Prabowo stated. According to him, BRICS possesses critical mineral resources, energy, production capacity, technological prowess, and a vast market, which can be integrated to build a robust common economic bloc. Indonesia hopes these resources will evolve beyond mere raw material supply into industrial capabilities that generate greater added value. As a concrete proposal, the President called for "joint industrialization and optimization of the resources and capacities we share." This, he believes, will facilitate investment flows, strengthen industrial structures, absorb labor, and contribute to the economic welfare of the people. Indonesia cited its transformation in food production capacity as a prime example of economic advancement. Once a major importer of grains, rice, and corn for many years, the nation has now become an exporter and is working to increase its supply contribution to other countries. Furthermore, President Prabowo pointed out that the green economy could present a strategic opportunity for BRICS to strengthen its position in the GVC. The development of renewable resources and clean technologies are vital components in enhancing economic value. He stressed that this collaborative effort can transform the integration of resources, production, technology, and markets into tangible industrial power. Indonesia is confident that strengthening joint supply chains will help BRICS nations increase their added value and improve their standing on the world economic map.
