Myanmar-Japan Parliaments Ready to Cooperate

The Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker U Khin Ri said that the Myanmar-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group has been formed, and both parliaments are ready to cooperate. This was stated during a meeting with a delegation led by Japanese House of Representatives member Watanabe at the reception hall of the Pyithu Hluttaw building in the Parliament complex in Nay Pyi Taw on the afternoon of September 22. The Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker said that the diplomatic relations between the two countries, established in 1954, have reached 72 years, and they are friendly nations with goodwill. He added that Japan is a friend who has worked hand-in-hand with Myanmar for many years, and he believes that Japan will come to understand the true situation of Myanmar more deeply. He stated that Japan and Myanmar have a history of strong friendship and mutual assistance, and not only governments but also peoples are friendly with each other. Therefore, he said that to further enhance the cooperation between the two countries, cooperation can be initiated from the parliamentary sector, and he wishes to cooperate with the Japanese House of Representatives in various sectors such as the committees of the Hluttaw, women, youth, and technology. The Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker said that his Hluttaw is reviewing and analyzing legal aspects to enable all businessmen to come and conduct business, and since Japan is a world-leading country in agriculture and technology, he wishes to discuss and consult on Myanmar's agricultural and technological sectors. Following this, Japanese House of Representatives member Watanabe said that he is delighted to have the opportunity to meet with the Speaker and is proud of his election as Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker. He stated that he visited Myanmar about 30 years ago and participated in development projects. He believes that this visit aims to resume cooperation between the two countries and ODA projects, and that cooperation should start from the parliamentary level between the two countries. He also said that it is necessary to foster closer ties between the peoples through cultural exchanges between the two countries, and he wishes to invite the Speaker to visit Japan at a convenient and appropriate time.
