Cambodia High School Exam Sees Over 150,000 Candidates, Up from Previous Year

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports announced on July 28, 2026, that the registration for the 2026 High School Graduation Exam (Bak Doep) has closed, with a total of 151,238 candidates (84,735 female) registered to take the exam. This figure represents an increase compared to the previous year, indicating growing interest in higher education. Among the registered candidates, 37,445 are pursuing science streams (22,193 female), and 113,793 are in social science streams (62,542 female). A total of 244 examination centers, comprising 6,104 rooms, have been prepared for the written tests across the country. Ten grading centers will be located in Phnom Penh. Each examination room will accommodate approximately 25 candidates, with exceptions for rooms with candidates from special education institutions. The Ministry emphasized that the exam process will adhere to the principles of law, justice, and transparency, with the outcome being "those who know will pass." Candidates are strictly prohibited from bringing mobile phones, smartwatches, smart glasses, any electronic devices, or documents into the examination centers. Violators will automatically be disqualified. This examination plays a crucial role in the academic progression and future career paths of Cambodia's youth.
