Cambodia Strengthens Measures Against Illegal Encroachment on Public Land, Especially Waterways

Kampong Cham Governor Oun Chanda stated that the management and protection of state public land, especially natural water sources including riverbanks, canals, and lakes, are essential for preserving the environment and maintaining order for sustainable development. The Governor made these remarks on the morning of August 6th during a meeting of the provincial land and urban planning committee. The meeting was attended by deputy governors, directors and deputy directors of relevant provincial departments and units, as well as city and district governors and many relevant officials. Governor Oun Chanda instructed land authorities and relevant ministries and departments to verify the actual land occupation situation along riverbanks, canals, and lakes. He also ordered strict measures to prevent illegal encroachment on state public land and to educate citizens about land planning laws and the impacts of violating watercourse boundaries. Although Kampong Cham province has successfully completed the systematic registration and distribution of land titles to its citizens, the Governor emphasized that authorities at all levels must continue to pay close attention to the enduring management of state public land.
