Taal Volcano Spews 1,100-Meter Steam Plumes

A "moderate emission" of steam-laden plumes reaching 1,100 meters high was observed from the main crater of Taal Volcano in Batangas on Sunday. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported this in its morning bulletin. According to Phivolcs, Taal Volcano has been continuously emitting steam-laden plumes from its crater over the past 24 hours. This activity resulted in the formation of plumes at a height of 1,100 meters above Taal Volcano Island (TVI). Taal Volcano is currently under Alert Level 1, which means entry into the volcano island, particularly the permanent danger zone around the crater, is not recommended. Taal Volcano, located about 60 kilometers southeast of Metro Manila, is one of the most active volcanoes in the Philippines. It experienced a major eruption in early 2020, which blanketed wide areas with ash and forced tens of thousands of residents to evacuate.
