Vietnamese Community in Malaysia Expands Efforts to Preserve Mother Tongue

The 10th anniversary of the Vietnamese Language Club in Malaysia and the launch of new Vietnamese language clubs were celebrated in an event co-organized by the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia and the Malaysia-Vietnam Friendship Association. The ceremony was attended by a large number of Vietnamese community members living, working, and studying in Malaysia, with participants gathering from Kuala Lumpur and various other regions. Ambassador Dinh Ngoc Linh of Vietnam to Malaysia also attended, expressing the embassy's commitment to supporting the community's endeavors. The decade-long journey of the Vietnamese Language Club signifies persistent efforts in preserving and disseminating the Vietnamese language, showcasing the vitality of the mother tongue within the Vietnamese diaspora in Malaysia. For younger generations born or raised abroad, learning Vietnamese serves as a crucial pathway to understanding their roots, fostering closer ties with grandparents and parents, and nurturing love for Vietnam's country and culture. The establishment of new clubs aligns with the national agenda of the Communist Party and the Vietnamese government, which prioritizes the preservation and promotion of the Vietnamese language among overseas communities. This initiative is further supported by the "Day of Honoring the Vietnamese Language in the Overseas Vietnamese Community," designated annually on September 8th, as part of the "2023-2030 Program for Honoring the Vietnamese Language in the Overseas Vietnamese Community." Political Bureau Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW dated August 2, 2026, reiterates the importance of the Vietnamese language as a connecting thread between generations of Vietnamese abroad and their homeland. The Vietnamese Embassy views its role in accompanying the community in teaching and learning Vietnamese as a long-term mission, aiming to instill a love for the language and Vietnamese culture in the younger generation. By listening to the community's needs and connecting domestic resources, the embassy is contributing to the expansion of the network for preserving the Vietnamese language in Malaysia.
