Cambodia Urges "Prevent. Verify. Cooperate." to Bolster Information Integrity in Mekong-Lancang Region

Cambodia has proposed a comprehensive "Prevent. Verify. Cooperate." approach to strengthen information integrity within the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) framework. This initiative aims to enhance the reliability and accuracy of information sharing across the region. The approach centers on preventive measures to verify the accuracy of information before it spreads, a process for objectively verifying the truthfulness of information, and the establishment of close cooperation among member states. Cambodia highlights that in the current era of rapid digitalization, the risk of information reliability being compromised increases alongside the speed of its dissemination. The Lancang-Mekong Cooperation is a multilateral mechanism involving China and the Southeast Asian countries of the Mekong River basin (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam). It promotes cooperation in various fields, including economic development, infrastructure, and cultural exchange. In recent years, the nature of information dissemination in the region and its geopolitical implications have also come under scrutiny. Cambodia's latest proposal signifies a focus on building stability and trust in the information space as a new dimension of regional cooperation. This may also reflect an intention to ensure transparency and fairness in information flow, particularly as China's influence grows in the region.
