Phnom Penh's Sen Sok District Clears Sidewalk Encroachments to Ease Traffic and Ensure Pedestrian Safety

Sen Sok District in Phnom Penh conducted an operation on September 4, 2026, to clear sidewalk encroachments along the western side of Street 271. The initiative aims to alleviate traffic congestion and ensure safer, more convenient passage for pedestrians. During the operation, the team carried out several practical tasks, including removing signage that obstructed sidewalks, relocating and advising vendors who were selling on sidewalks that impacted public space, and dismantling some structures that had encroached upon the sidewalks. Authorities stated that the organization and clearing of sidewalks are intended to make public roads wider, cleaner, and more orderly. Specifically, it aims to provide adequate space for pedestrians to travel easily and safely, and to help reduce congestion that may arise from the use of sidewalks and public roads for vending or construction. The activity involved the participation of officials from the district's Department of Public Works and Transport, the district's order maintenance force, and the district police force, who collaborated to ensure that the organization and maintenance of public order were carried out effectively within the district. Sen Sok District authorities have consistently prioritized the organization of order, aesthetics, and the environment within their jurisdiction, especially along major roads, to ensure cleanliness, orderliness, and convenience for the public's travel.
