Caregiver Abuses Elderly Mother in Thailand; Family Uncovers Truth via Security Cameras

In Chonburi, Thailand, a family discovered the horrific reality of their mother's care through indoor security cameras, revealing brutal abuse by a hired caregiver. The 78-year-old mother suffers from severe Alzheimer's disease and is bedridden following a stroke. The family had been paying the caregiver a substantial monthly salary of 26,000 baht. Initially, the family trusted the caregiver, who appeared kind and attentive. However, problems began when the elderly mother started developing strange, dark bruises. The caregiver claimed these were self-inflicted during physical therapy, a story the family initially believed due to their lack of medical expertise. Their trust was shattered when the son's wife heard the mother crying out in pain one morning. Upon entering the room, she witnessed the caregiver forcefully twisting the mother's head and attempting to cover her face with a towel. The caregiver dismissed the incident, falsely stating the mother was singing the national anthem loudly. Prompted by this suspicious behavior, the family reviewed their home security footage. The recorded videos revealed the caregiver constantly cursing at the defenseless elderly woman, along with instances of brutal hitting and kicking. The footage showed the caregiver would often wake the mother in the early hours of the morning specifically to abuse her, before returning to sleep as if nothing had happened. Devastated by the evidence, the family immediately confronted the caregiver, who confessed to hitting the mother's legs and body. She was fired on the spot and ordered to leave. The determined son then took the video evidence to the Mueang Chonburi Police Station and filed a formal complaint, seeking justice and ensuring the caregiver cannot harm another patient. The family also reached out to the local justice advocacy group "Sai Mai Tong Rot," whose founder pledged to help track down the caregiver and bring her to justice.
