Cambodia Boosts International Cooperation at Digital Trade Forum

The 3rd Digital Trade Forum and Online Expo, held at the Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Centre in Phnom Penh from September 11–13, 2026, served as a significant step towards advancing digital trade and strengthening international cooperation. The event brought together government leaders, business executives, and representatives from international organizations to engage in in-depth discussions on the challenges and opportunities within the digital economy. Discussions at the forum covered a wide range of topics, including the promotion of digital trade, facilitation of cross-border e-commerce, development of digital infrastructure, and enhancement of cybersecurity. Particularly active exchanges of opinions occurred regarding the strengthening of digital trade connectivity within the ASEAN region and support measures for the digitalization of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). The Cambodian government has positioned digitalization as a key pillar of its economic growth strategy and expressed its intention to further strengthen collaborations with domestic and international partners through this forum. Cambodia has been experiencing economic development in recent years, partly driven by increased investment from China. However, the transition to a digital economy also presents challenges such as infrastructure development and human capital cultivation. This forum is expected to facilitate the introduction of international expertise and technologies to overcome these challenges, as well as create investment opportunities. For Cambodia, which has close ties with China, expanding international cooperation in the digital sector is a crucial strategy for diversifying its economy and achieving sustainable growth.
