Jaecoo J5 Offers Up to VND150 Million Discount, Challenging Corolla Cross

The Vietnamese automotive market is currently experiencing widespread price reductions and promotional campaigns, and emerging brand Jaecoo is no exception. To boost sales of its latest model, the J5, the company is offering discounts of up to VND150 million. These promotions include subsidies for gasoline or charging costs, or free charging services for 4 to 30 years, depending on the model. The cash equivalent of these discounts ranges from VND70 million to VND150 million, bringing the J5's price down to VND499-669 million (approximately $20,000-$26,000 USD). Although positioned in the B+ segment, the discounted price of the Jaecoo J5 makes it comparable to B-segment competitors such as the Mitsubishi Xforce (VND605-720 million) and Hyundai Creta (VND599-715 million). This pricing strategy aims to enhance its competitiveness in the domestic market, especially when compared to rivals like the Toyota Corolla Cross (VND820-865 million) and Mazda CX-30 (VND699-749 million). The J5 is the second model sold under the Jaecoo brand and is positioned above the Omoda C5, which shares the same platform and belongs to the same parent company, Chery. The J5 offers a variety of powertrain options, including gasoline, hybrid, and fully electric (EV) versions. The gasoline variant is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine producing 145 horsepower. The hybrid model combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 221 horsepower and an NEDC-rated range of approximately 1,000 km. The EV model features an electric motor with 208 horsepower and a range of 461 km on a full charge, supporting DC fast charging. The Vietnamese auto market is characterized by intense competition from both domestically produced and imported vehicles. The aggressive promotional tactics by new brands are expanding consumer choices in this dynamic market.
