Yangon, July 16 The terrorist military conducting operations in Laungpyan Township, Tanintharyi Region, has arrested about 70 civilians and burned down two villages, forcing thousands of civilians to flee to safety, a local source told Yangon Khit Thit Media. The terrorist military column, which was formed with military units from Dawei city within the Dawei Economic Zone on July 8, began its operation into villages in Laungpyan Township on July 9. It is known that on July 9, the column arrested about 70 civilians, including passengers on a bus and on cargo vehicles, as human shields in the village of Kamaung Chaung. It is understood that the detained civilians have not yet been released. Furthermore, the terrorist military column burned down civilian homes in Wazumtaw village and Aekani village on July 11 and 12, and looted civilian property at will. Due to this military column, as of today, July 16, thousands of civilians from about 10 villages have fled to safety, and food is also urgently needed. "While the military column was conducting operations in Laungpyan Township, all the people had to flee to safety. The military also burned down two villages. The people are still fleeing to safety, and we are currently arranging food for the displaced people," said the local source.
