France Pledges to Uphold International Law as UN Security Council President

France has pledged to promote international law and multilateralism as it assumes the presidency of the UN Security Council (UNSC) for the month of September. This move could indirectly influence Cambodia's engagement within the international community. According to a statement released by the French Embassy in Cambodia, France aims to foster international dialogue, uphold international law, and seek common solutions to various global challenges. In his remarks upon taking office, President Emmanuel Macron declared France's commitment to enhancing the effectiveness of the multilateral system to respond to international tensions and crises. He emphasized that the leadership of the UNSC is dedicated to contributing to global peace and security, strengthening the resolution of major global issues based on the principles of international law. The presidency of the UN Security Council rotates monthly among the 15 member states (five permanent members and ten non-permanent members) in alphabetical order. France takes over from Ecuador, which held the presidency last month.
