Onion and dried chili prices rise in Aungban market, most vegetables remain sluggish

Mekong, August 3 According to market prices on August 2 in the commodity market of Aungban town, southern Shan State, prices for onions and dried chilies continue to remain at high levels, and the price of garlic is also rising depending on quality, according to market sources. In the current market, new onions are priced at 6,200 kyats per viss for Grade 1, 6,000 kyats for Grade 2, 5,500 kyats for Grade 3, and up to 4,000 kyats for Grade 4. Shan State dried chilies are priced up to 19,000 kyats per viss, while green chili varieties are being traded at various prices ranging from 4,000 kyats to 12,000 kyats. In addition, Shan garlic is fetching prices ranging from 2,900 kyats to 11,500 kyats per viss depending on quality, while golden beans, long beans, radishes, pumpkins, winter gourds, gourds, cucumbers, and some green chilies are being traded at moderate prices. On the other hand, tomatoes, bok choy, peas, eggplants, bell peppers, cabbages, flower vegetables, and most types of potatoes are in a state of sluggish prices due to high arrivals and low demand, according to investigations by market sources. "Recently, onions and dried chilies are still expensive because demand is strong. Good quality garlic is also seeing price increases. However, tomatoes, cabbages, flower vegetables, potatoes, and most vegetables are not yet seeing price increases due to high arrivals and slow purchases. As it is the rainy season, prices may fluctuate depending on daily arrivals and demand," a produce broker in Aungban told Mekong. While onions, dried chilies, and garlic are leading the market in the current Aungban commodity market, most vegetables and seasonal fruits remain sluggish, and traders predict that price fluctuations may continue as long as the rainy season arrivals persist.
