Vietnam Proposes Legal Framework for Coastal View Corridors, Marine Spatial Planning
Vietnam's National Assembly is proposing a legal framework for marine spatial planning and coastal view corridor protection, aiming to promote sustainable maritime resource use and economic growth. Leveraging science, technology, and digital transformation, the initiative seeks to attract investment and make the marine economy a key growth driver. The importance of infrastructure development was also highlighted.
Vietnam is moving towards effective governance and sustainable use of its maritime space, underpinned by science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, rather than solely focusing on resource exploitation. A transparent and stable legal environment with outstanding incentives is expected to attract a new wave of investment and help turn the marine economy into a key driver of Vietnam's economic growth. Dak Lak province, with its coastline of nearly 189 kilometers featuring a network of straits, bays, lagoons, and seaports, is well-positioned to advance its marine economy, particularly through the harvesting, aquaculture, and processing of high-value seafood products. Infrastructure development is no longer merely a foundation for production and daily life but has become a decisive factor in enhancing national competitiveness, stressed Politburo member Tran Cam Tu. The government has proposed the Ring Road 5 project, an expressway belt linking Hanoi with surrounding provinces, aimed at meeting growing transport demand, expanding development space, stimulating socio-economic growth, strengthening national defense and security, and easing traffic congestion and environmental pressure. Quang Ninh and Bac Ninh provinces have become leading economic localities by capitalizing on their geographical advantages and development potential, playing an increasingly important role in the Red River Delta, the northern region, and the national economy. An exhibition titled "Woven Ties – 50 Years of Thailand–Vietnam Diplomatic Relations" opened in Hanoi, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and artistic excellence of both nations. In defense cooperation, satisfaction was expressed over the strong development of Vietnam-Malaysia relations, highlighted by the elevation to a comprehensive strategic partnership. Vietnam also highlighted its defense cooperation with India, where the Air Force Officers College is modernizing its training programs for pilots and technical personnel using simulation technology and digital transformation. General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and State President To Lam is scheduled to pay state visits to Australia and New Zealand from August 9-14, indicating an active engagement in Vietnam's foreign affairs amidst complex regional and international developments.
