Phan Thiet's 'Sunset Slope' Becomes Viral Hotspot Thanks to Social Media

A "Sunset Slope" located in Phan Thiet city, south-central Vietnam, has rapidly gained popularity among locals and tourists, particularly since 2024, largely due to its viral spread on social media. This "Sunset Slope," situated at the foot of Co Mountain, stretches over a kilometer on the road from Phan Thiet city center towards Ham Tien - Mui Ne. Every day from around 4 PM, hundreds of people flock to this spot to watch the sunset and take photos. Locals liken the location to Mui Ne's "sunset viewing stadium." It is especially bustling on weekends. According to Thuan Nguyen, a tour guide specializing in the Ho Chi Minh City - Phan Thiet route, the "Sunset Slope" gained prominence in 2024 through videos and images shared on social media. Currently, most tours visiting Mui Ne allocate 30-45 minutes for a stop here between 4:30 PM and 5 PM, when the light is at its best. Le Hong Tram, 23, from Ho Chi Minh City, learned about the "Sunset Slope" from social media and proactively adjusted her itinerary to visit during her trip to Mui Ne. "From anywhere on the slope, you can capture photos of the sea and the coconut groves below. The scenery is very open, so you can take a beautiful picture just by pointing your phone," she said. Nguyen Minh Quan, from Dong Nai province, who visited with friends on August 5th, stated that the "Sunset Slope" was the most anticipated spot in his Mui Ne exploration. Arriving around 4 PM, the areas on both sides of the road were already packed with vehicles and people. Despite having to park over a kilometer away and walk back, the tourist commented, "The sunset view was impressive and worth the experience." Around the "Sunset Slope," several cafes and eateries operate seasonally, allowing visitors to enjoy drinks, watch the sea, and wait for the sunset. The destination is also conveniently located on the route connecting Po Sah Inu Tower and Ong Hoang Palace, making it easy to combine with visits to Phan Thiet's famous cultural and historical sites within a single itinerary. Visitors can reach the "Sunset Slope" by motorbike, car, or taxi via the route from Phan Thiet city center towards Ham Tien - Mui Ne. Although many view it as a photo opportunity, the slope is a busy traffic route. For safety, tourists are advised to park at designated spots or along the roadside and avoid standing in the middle of the road for photos.
