Cambodia and India Sign MoU for Mine Clearance Project in Pursat

On July 27, 2026, at the residence of the Indian Ambassador in Phnom Penh, Cambodia's Mine Authority (CMA) and the Indian Embassy signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to implement a Quick Impact Project (QIP) on mine clearance in Mool Village, Rokath Commune, Phnom Kravanh District, Pursat Province. During the ceremony, Dr. Ly Thuch, Senior Minister and First Vice President of CMA, stated that the long-standing friendship between Cambodia and India has been further strengthened through practical cooperation, including humanitarian mine action. This aims to transform hazardous land into safe land for the people. Dr. Ly Thuch expressed gratitude to the Indian government and people for their continuous support for mine action activities, from projects in Botum Sakor District, Koh Kong Province, to Mondul Seima District, and now in Pursat Province. This support contributes to restoring safe land for the people and accelerating community development. He further emphasized that India's support not only contributes to mine clearance but also helps restore hope and dignity for mine victims through the 'India for Humanity' initiative, which has provided artificial limbs to 650 Cambodian citizens. Dr. Ly Thuch announced that the project in Mool Village has handed over more than 16 hectares of safe land to the people through the 'Mine-Free Village' mechanism. This will allow residents to utilize the land for their livelihoods and build a secure future. He also expressed gratitude for the attention of Prime Minister Hun Manet, who places the peace and dignity of the people at the core of development and continues to push Cambodia towards achieving its goal of becoming a mine-impact-free country by 2030. Concurrently, the implementation of this project aligns with the Prime Minister's focus and vision, which identifies mine action as a humanitarian priority to ensure the safety of the people and support national development.
