Cambodia Appoints 5 Project Directors to Spearhead 5 Major National Road Construction Studies

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has appointed five senior officials as project directors to lead the study and development of five major national road construction projects, aiming for subsequent commencement of construction. These initiatives are poised to enhance national infrastructure and stimulate regional economic growth. The appointed directors and their respective projects are: * Mr. Chuon Rin (Secretary of State, Ministry of Public Works and Transport): Oversees the National Road No. 8 project, spanning from Prek Tamak Bridge to Ponhea Krek (intersecting with National Road No. 7). On June 3rd, he led a site inspection of this section, marking the initial phase of feasibility studies aimed at improving road quality and bolstering cross-border transportation infrastructure connectivity. * Mr. Sokhum Pokvontmony (Secretary of State, Ministry of Public Works and Transport): Leads the Battambang-Siem Reap connection road and National Road No. 60B project. On May 22nd, a meeting was held to review the Terms of Reference (TOR) for selecting a technical consulting firm to conduct feasibility studies, funded by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). * Mr. Yit Bunna (Secretary of State, Ministry of Public Works and Transport): Heads the Central Region Connection Road project. On June 9th, he conducted an on-site inspection of road networks from National Road No. 53 (Tuek Phos) to National Road No. 3, and from National Road No. 4 (Chbar Mon City) to Koh Khsach Tongle, totaling 168.20 kilometers. The inspection, attended by AIIB representatives, focused on understanding the current road conditions and proposed new alignments to bypass populated areas and connect to existing routes, aligning with regional development strategies and sustainable transport system efficiency. * Mr. Khan Mane (Secretary of State, Ministry of Public Works and Transport): Manages the project to construct a road connecting the new Siem Reap Airport to Siem Reap City, a distance of over 20 kilometers. This project is currently in its preliminary study phase, with construction slated to begin after several stages. Supported by AIIB funding, this improvement is highly anticipated by the private sector involved in Siem Reap's tourism industry, expected to reduce travel time, alleviate traffic congestion, and contribute to environmental preservation. * Mr. Pal Chanthara (Secretary of State, Ministry of Public Works and Transport): Directs the rehabilitation project of the northern section of National Road No. 7, from Kratie Province to Trapaing Kreil (border) in Stung Treng Province. This project is being implemented under grant aid from the People's Republic of China.
