Cambodia's Environment Ministry to Investigate Urgent Impacts of Battery Recycling Plant Fire

The Cambodian Ministry of Environment announced that it will immediately conduct an urgent investigation into the environmental impacts, air pollution, and public health risks stemming from a fire at a mineral recycling plant in Toul Samobor village, Dak Run commune, Samaki Munychey district, Kampong Speu province. Ministry spokesperson Khvai Atithia confirmed this on the morning of July 30th. According to the spokesperson, the Minister of Environment has instructed a team of experts to proceed to the site, equipped with air quality testing devices and hazardous substance detection equipment. The expert team is scheduled to investigate the impacts of the fire at the mineral recycling plant, which processes old batteries, as early as July 30th. The fire occurred at approximately 1:10 AM on July 29th at the "Sin Seng Seng Metal Material Industrial Park Co., Ltd.," owned by Chinese national ZHANG JINGCHUAN. According to the official Facebook page of the Kampong Speu Provincial Police, the cause was an electrical short circuit originating from a battery cooling unit. The incident resulted in the complete destruction of a warehouse measuring 40m x 100m, along with finished products, two forklifts, two motorcycles, and a large quantity of other materials.
