GSIS Offers P8 Billion Emergency Loans to Calamity-Hit Members

MANILA, Philippines — The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is offering nearly P8 billion in emergency loans available to more than 317,000 members and pensioners affected by flooding and other damage from recent typhoons and the enhanced southwest monsoon. According to a GSIS statement issued on Friday, a total of 317,721 active members and old-age and disability pensioners who have been affected by the calamities can avail themselves of the emergency loan. Members can avail themselves of a loan of up to P40,000 with an interest rate of 6% per annum, payable within three years. Additionally, they can apply for a supplementary loan of P20,000, which will have an interest rate of 8% per annum and also be payable within three years.
