Cambodian Senate Reviews Four Key Draft Laws on International Cooperation and Citizenship

The Standing Committee of the Cambodian Senate convened on Friday, September 25, 2026, under the high presidency of His Excellency Uch Borith, Acting President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia. The meeting was held at Samakiumeiv Palace to review and decide on several important working agendas. According to a press release from the General Secretariat of the Senate, following examination and discussion, the Standing Committee of the Senate decided on the following key tasks: 1. Assigning the Committee for Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Information of the Senate, in collaboration with the Committee for Legislation and Justice of the Senate, to study and examine the draft law on the approval of the ASEAN Framework Agreement on Trade Facilitation. 2. Assigning the Committee for Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Information of the Senate, in collaboration with the Committee for Legislation and Justice of the Senate, to study and examine the draft law on the approval of the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the Secretariat, Personnel, and Representatives of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA). 3. Assigning the Committee for Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Information of the Senate, in collaboration with the Committee for Legislation and Justice of the Senate, to study and examine the draft law on the approval of the Agreement between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Russian Federation on Mutual Protection of Citizens in the Field of International Criminal Justice. 4. Assigning the Committee for Legislation and Justice of the Senate to study and examine the draft law on amendments to the Law on Nationality. 5. Preparing for the election of members to fill vacancies in the Committee for Public Works, Transport, Civil Aviation, Post, Telecommunications, Industry, Science, Technology, Innovation, Mines, Energy, Commerce, Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction of the Senate, to be included in the agenda of the next extraordinary session of the Senate for the fifth legislature.
