Cambodia to Host International Conference on Combating Tech Scams, Interior Minister to Deliver Keynote

Cambodia is set to host an international conference focused on combating technology-enabled scams in Phnom Penh from September 23-24, 2026. The conference, themed "Fighting Scams Through Technology," will operate under the agenda "Together Towards Severing the Chain and Ending Technology-Enabled Scams." Following a keynote address by Prime Minister Hun Manet, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sar Sokha, will deliver a principal speech on "Technology-Enabled Scams: An Urgent Global Issue." Minister Sar Sokha is expected to highlight the causes and reasons for the rise in technology-enabled scams, their connection to other criminal activities, the crackdown mechanisms and outcomes within the Ministry of Interior's purview, challenges posed by artificial intelligence (AI) technology, the importance of fostering international cooperation, and firm commitments. Furthermore, Keo Vannthann, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Interior, will also present a speech on "Regional and Global Responses to Technology-Enabled Scams." Secretary of State Keo Vannthann will discuss the complexities of technology-enabled scams within Cambodia, the region, and globally, and offer perspectives for the international conference to consider in addressing this global issue. The forum will see participation from representatives of various international bodies and law enforcement agencies, including the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Secretariat, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Australian Federal Police, the ASEAN Secretariat, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and INTERPOL. These participants will engage in discussions aimed at strengthening effective measures against these transnational criminal activities. Through this international conference, the Cambodian government aims to share its priorities in combating technology-enabled scams, its proven operational results and experiences, and to enhance cooperation with the international community in eradicating this problem. This initiative is considered part of the current administration's efforts to ensure the safety of its citizens and the integrity of the digital space.
