PM Hun Sen Expresses Frustration Over Frequent Aid Requests and Meeting Demands, Warns of Contact Deletion

Former Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has revealed his "frustration" on his official social media regarding individuals who repeatedly send messages requesting personal assistance and meetings. The former Prime Minister urged an immediate halt to such disturbances and warned of deleting contact information for those who persistently cause inconvenience. The former Prime Minister's statement was released on the afternoon of September 22, 2026. Coincidentally, this date marked the first month birthday of his granddaughter, Hun Panyapormala, daughter of Mr. Hun Many. In his post, the former Prime Minister wrote, "Today is my granddaughter's birthday, a day that should be joyous, but I am not happy because I received nearly 20 messages on Telegram and WhatsApp today." The requests varied widely, including desires for personal meetings, descriptions of family hardships, and specifically, financial aid for purchasing homes, motorcycles, and even luxury cars, as well as requests to cover tuition fees for children studying abroad. The former Prime Minister considered such aid requests "excessive." He elaborated, stating, "In the past, I have assisted poor students with rent, tuition fees, and living expenses, amounting to hundreds or thousands of dollars. However, today, the demands from just four individuals reach tens of thousands of dollars." He further added, "The cost of buying a house, a car, or a motorcycle, and tuition fees of tens of thousands of dollars per year, are even higher than what my own children paid when studying abroad." In addition to financial demands, the former Prime Minister also mentioned the disruption of his time due to daily contact. He noted that messages, both voice and text, are sent to him during the times his children leave for school and when they return. The former Prime Minister added that he and his sons, particularly Prime Minister Hun Manet, have very limited contact. With these revelations, the former Prime Minister warned that he would remove individuals from his contact list who connect with him without permission.
