Cambodia Strengthens Partnership with NGO to Expand Clean Water Access in Rural Areas
Cambodia's Ministry of Rural Development met with the NGO "Water Organization 1001" to enhance cooperation in expanding clean water supply in rural areas. The NGO already provides clean water to over one million people across 18 provinces.
Minister of Rural Development, H.E. Chhay Rithisen, met with Ms. Amandine Chaussinand, Country Director of Water Organization 1001, and her colleagues on the morning of July 15, 2026, at the Ministry's headquarters. The meeting focused on discussing cooperation to expand clean water supply in rural areas. During the meeting, Ms. Chaussinand expressed her sincere gratitude to H.E. Minister for the warm welcome. She reported on the operations of Water Organization 1001, which began in 2005 and currently operates in 18 target provinces across the country. As of 2025, approximately one million rural residents benefit from clean water produced by the organization daily. Furthermore, the organization provides purified water to over 1,000 schools in 18 provinces, ensuring approximately 360,000 children have access to safe drinking water every day. Ms. Chaussinand and her team also presented the organization's five-year action plan to the Minister and the Ministry's leadership. H.E. Minister Chhay Rithisen thanked Ms. Chaussinand and her colleagues for their visit and for the detailed report on the organization's activities. He highlighted Cambodia's development under the peace and stability brought by the wise and correct leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the "Father of Peace" of Cambodia and former Prime Minister, and the continued leadership of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia. This leadership is driving the "Pentagon Strategy" Phase 1, aiming to achieve Cambodia's 2050 vision of becoming a high-income country. H.E. Minister further elaborated that the Ministry of Rural Development, as a key government body, is actively participating in implementing the "Pentagon Strategy" Phase 1. The Ministry's vision is to "build a prosperous, inclusive, equitable, and sustainable rural Cambodian society in economic, social, and cultural aspects," with five key strategies. Strategy 1 focuses on improving the living conditions of rural residents through inclusive and resilient clean water supply services and promoting proper hygiene practices, leading to better health and increased life expectancy. On this occasion, H.E. Minister praised the organization's efforts and excellent partnership with the Ministry of Rural Development.
