Thai Interior Minister Orders Deportation of Israeli National Convicted of Threats

PRIME MINISTER-cum-Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul today (Sep. 5) signed an order deporting an Israeli man from Thailand after Koh Samui Provincial Court found him guilty of threatening another person, Amarin TV said. The order states that Mr. Yaacov Ohayon had sent threatening messages to the victim, implying this person’s life and safety was at risk causing fear and alarm. Koh Samui Provincial Court had previously found Ohayon guilty under Section 392 of the Criminal Code for causing fear or alarm to another person through threats. He was sentenced to one month imprisonment and fined 10,000 baht. However due to his confession, which was considered beneficial to the proceedings, his sentence was reduced by half to 15-day imprisonment and 5,000 baht fine, with the jail term suspended for two years. Anutin, exercising authority under Section 5 of the Deportation Act B.E. 2499 (1956) and Clause 4 of the Prime Minister’s Office Regulation on Deportation B.E. 2569 (2026), issued the order deporting Ohayon from Thailand. The Prime Minister’s Office Regulation on Deportation B.E. 2569 (2026) was published in the Royal Gazette on Aug. 27 this year and came into effect the next day. If Ohayon disagrees with the order, he has the right to appeal to the Prime Minister to revoke it or to stop his deportation under Section 8 of the Deportation Act within seven days of being notified.
