Singer Tung Duong Aims for 50,000 Audience at My Dinh Stadium Concert

Vietnamese singer Tung Duong is set to hold a large-scale concert at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi on December 19, marking his 25-year career. He aims to attract an audience of 50,000, expressing both excitement and nervousness about the ambitious undertaking. "I feel quite nervous when undertaking a large-scale concert. However, art requires a bit of daring, a willingness to be 'fearless' to let the soul soar. I have great faith in this program," Duong stated. He believes his music encompasses diverse colors, making it crucial to connect these elements into a harmonious whole. While not expecting instant ticket sell-outs, he considers three months an appropriate timeframe to reach his audience. Duong recently sought advice from My Tam, who successfully organized a 40,000-strong concert at My Dinh Stadium last year. Tam wished him a smooth and "rain-and-wind-favorable" event. The concert, themed "Flying Towards the Sun" (Bay về phía mặt trời), takes its name from his upcoming album. The show will feature nearly 40 pieces performed by Duong and guest artists, blending music with stage technology, dance, and choreography. Instead, it will reconstruct works thematically and musically, weaving together songs from various stages of his career. A significant portion will be dedicated to songs about Vietnam's homeland, country, and people. Duong intends to re-imagine familiar tunes for multiple generations and create a space for tens of thousands to sing along. Alongside his established musical values, Duong is connecting with the younger generation through guest performers. The first announced are Phung Khanh Linh and GREY D, both performing with Duong for the first time. Linh has composed two new songs for the senior artist, including "Hai kẻ lang bạt," inspired by their shared musical styles. Artist Nguyen Huu Vuong, a long-time collaborator, will return as music director. He revealed that the idea of bringing Duong to a stadium was discussed two to three years ago, initially planned for the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long. This time, the arrangements are being developed to expand in scale and increase dramatic impact while maintaining moments of quietude to keep the vocals central. One or two songs will have special staging, serving as unique highlights, including the title track "Flying Towards the Sun." Duong and his team have experience with 14 indoor concerts, but transitioning to an outdoor stage requires calculating every element for the new scale. For instance, LED screens will expand from hundreds to thousands of square meters, necessitating corresponding requirements for visuals, costumes, and choreography to ensure compatibility with the vast space.
