Vietnam to Offer Tuition Support for Preschoolers

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) Central Committee and President To Lam called for substantive reform in school governance, teaching staff, curricula, teaching and learning methods, examinations and assessment, while addressing a meeting on August 25 to review the first year of implementing Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW. This move indicates Vietnam's commitment to strengthening investment in the education sector and expanding support for citizens' livelihoods. Groups that benefit from tuition support include students from kindergarten to university, and learners enrolled in general education programmes at public educational institutions within the national education system. The list also covers beneficiaries under the Ordinance on Preferential Treatment for People with Meritorious Services to the Revolution, who are studying at educational institutions within the national education system, and students with disabilities at vocational education and higher education institutions. This is seen as part of efforts within Vietnam's one-party system to promote social welfare and equal educational opportunities for all citizens. Prime Minister Le Minh Hung called on the education sector to continue making strong changes in management mindset and teaching methods, putting learners at the centre, and viewing schools as the foundation, teachers as the driving force, families as a source of support and society as a resource accompanying education development. This policy aims to foster human capital that supports Vietnam's sustained economic growth. In recent years, Vietnam has benefited from international cooperation, such as the delivery of PAUL systems for disaster relief, demonstrating the potential for cooperation beyond experience exchange to bring direct benefits to local communities. International collaboration in the education sector is also expected as part of this development. As Vietnam enters a new development phase targeting double-digit growth with strategic milestones in 2030 and 2045, ensuring educational opportunities for every citizen is a crucial foundation for achieving these goals.
