Cambodia to Enhance Citizen Services Through Strengthened ID Card Issuance
Kampong Chhnang province in Cambodia is set to accelerate and strengthen the issuance of national identification cards to its residents. Kampong Chhnang province, Cambodia, confirmed the importance of issuing identification cards (national ID cards) to residents promptly and in a timely manner during the 25th ordinary meeting of the provincial council for the 4th mandate, held on June 29, 2026. Mr. Siv Run, President of the Kampong Chhnang Provincial Council, emphasized that this initiative is essential for citizens to access various services such as education, employment, property and vehicle registration, bank account opening, business registration, contract signing, and other administrative services, in the context of decentralization and deconcentration reforms. During the meeting, Mr. Chim Vutha, Deputy Governor of Kampong Chhnang province, explained the specifications of the new national ID card, which can be in plastic card or electronic format and interact with other systems. This card will be issued to all Cambodian citizens aged 15 and above, with a validity period of 10 years for individuals aged 15 to under 60, and a permanent validity for those aged 60 and above. A summary report of the work carried out in June was also presented. President Siv Run instructed the municipal/district authorities, armed forces, and relevant ministries to continue their efforts in promoting the issuance of national ID cards. Particular emphasis was placed on encouraging residents in remote areas to understand the importance of ID cards and cooperate with the issuance process.
