AI Summary

The Indonesian Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) has issued new regulations concerning the conformity of imported halal products entering Indonesia. This aims to provide clear standards and assurance for both consumers and businesses ahead of the mandatory halal certification deadline in October 2026.

The Indonesian Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) has issued new regulations concerning the determination of the conformity of foreign halal products that enter, circulate, and are traded in Indonesia. The regulation is contained in Regulation BPJPH Number 4 of 2026 concerning the Confirmation of the Conformity of Foreign Halal Products Entering the Indonesian Territory. Head of BPJPH Ahmad Haikal Hasan stated that the regulation serves as a guideline in ensuring the conformity of imported halal products in Indonesia. "This is a guideline in the implementation of ensuring foreign halal products that enter, circulate, and are traded in the Indonesian region," Haikal said in a statement. According to Haikal, regulations on the determination of imported halal products are necessary to provide certainty of halal status to consumers and to create business certainty for business actors. "We want to ensure that the implementation of the Halal Product Guarantee (JPH) obligation for imported products has clear rules. This is important to provide protection to consumers as well as certainty for the business world," he added. The confirmation of halal products is part of the implementation of the Halal Product Guarantee (JPH) based on the principles of protection, legal certainty, accountability, transparency, effectiveness, efficiency, and professionalism as mandated in Law Number 33 of 2014. The implementation of JPH aims to provide convenience, security, safety, and certainty of the availability of halal products for the community. This policy is also directed to increase added value for business actors. "The substance is certainty. The public receives protection in choosing products, while business actors receive clarity regarding compliance with halal product guarantee provisions," Haikal explained. With this regulation, the interests of consumers and the business world are expected to run in parallel. The public gets certainty about the halal status of foreign products, while importers get clear rules to meet applicable provisions. Haikal mentioned that the confirmation of imported halal products is also part of the implementation of the mandate of the Halal Product Guarantee Law and the Government Regulation on the Implementation of the Halal Product Guarantee Sector. This provision regulates the enforcement of the obligation to certify halal, or Halal Obligatory, in October 2026, including for products from abroad. Therefore, Haikal encourages importers and Inspection Agencies to understand and prepare for compliance with these provisions. According to him, the readiness of all parties is needed so that the implementation of the determination of imported halal products runs effectively, provides protection to the community, and creates a business climate with certainty. "Ultimately, halal certainty also provides added value for products and supports the development of the halal economic ecosystem," Haikal concluded.
