BMKG Reports Rp2.1 Trillion Budget Shortfall for 2027 to Parliament

The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has reported to the House of Representatives (DPR) that there is a budget shortfall of Rp2.126 trillion required for its operations in the fiscal year 2027. This report highlights the financial challenges faced by the agency and the necessity of investment to maintain and improve the nation's meteorological, climatological, and geophysical monitoring capabilities. BMKG requires funds for various programs, including the renewal of meteorological observation equipment, expansion of seismic monitoring networks, enhancement of tsunami warning systems, and advancement of disaster prediction models. Given Indonesia's location in a region prone to natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions, maintaining and improving these monitoring and prediction capabilities are crucial for ensuring public safety. This budget shortfall indicates a potential delay in investments for these critical infrastructure developments and technological advancements, raising concerns about future disaster response capabilities. BMKG is seeking support from the DPR to secure the remaining budget.
