National Bank of Cambodia Places Chief Commercial Bank (Cambodia) Under Temporary Administration

The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) has announced its decision to place Chief Commercial Bank (Cambodia) M.o.k. (hereinafter referred to as Chief Commercial Bank) under temporary administration due to deficiencies in its compliance with existing regulations. This measure will be effective for a period of three months, commencing September 21, 2026. The NBC has appointed Baker Tilly (Cambodia) M.o.k. as the interim administrator for Chief Commercial Bank. The interim administrator's role will be to assess the situation of Chief Commercial Bank and report to the NBC, thereby providing a basis for future decisions regarding the bank. During this three-month period, the interim administrator will hold management and representation authority for all operations of the bank. This includes the temporary suspension of deposit withdrawals and certain non-essential expenditures. However, all borrowers are required to continue fulfilling their repayment obligations as scheduled. This action is understood to be aimed at strengthening oversight within Cambodia's financial sector and ensuring the sound operation of the bank.
