Cambodia Temporarily Halts New Rooftop Solar System Applications

The Ministry of Mines and Energy of Cambodia has announced a temporary suspension of new applications for installation permits for rooftop solar power systems. The ministry stated that it has already issued licenses to 68 companies for rooftop solar power system installation services, with 58 of them having obtained licenses from the Electricity Authority of Cambodia (EAC). The ministry has determined that the number of existing licensed companies is sufficient to meet the current demand. This measure is taken to allow time for monitoring and evaluating the service provision of existing companies and to re-evaluate the actual demand for such services. The date for the resumption of new applications will be announced later. Furthermore, companies that have already obtained licenses are required to perform installation work directly and are prohibited from transferring or delegating their responsibilities to unlicensed companies or individuals. They are also forbidden from disseminating misleading information or soliciting customers to install systems beyond their actual needs. Companies found to be in violation will face potential suspension or revocation of their licenses, as well as legal action. The Ministry of Mines and Energy, the Electricity Authority of Cambodia, and Electricité du Cambodge will cooperate to monitor and evaluate the actual implementation of work by these companies as necessary.
