Singer Phuong Trinh Jolie Fuses Traditional Music from Across Vietnam in New MV

Singer Phuong Trinh Jolie has released "Thanh âm Việt Nam" (Vietnamese Sounds), a music video and song aimed at honoring Vietnamese culture. The track, composed by DC Tam, incorporates musical elements from various regions of Vietnam, blended with modern harmonies. Jolie aims to showcase the diversity of traditional Vietnamese music through this production, contributing to the preservation of traditional sounds in a constantly evolving society. "As the country develops and integrates, the values belonging to our roots are increasingly needed for the younger generation to explore and continue," she stated. The song features the melodies of Quan Họ from Bac Ninh in the north, Nha Nhac (royal court music) from Hue in the center, and Ho (folk songs) from the south. Phuong Trinh Jolie adapted her singing style and enunciation to reflect the distinct characteristics of each region. The lyrics celebrate the imagery of rural villages, rice fields, a mother's lullaby, and the aspirations and drive of youth for national development. In the MV, Jolie appears in various outfits inspired by traditional Vietnamese culture, including a red brocade Nhat Binh dress, a white Ao Dai, a Ba Ba outfit, and stylized costumes derived from the Tu Than attire. The MV's settings utilize ceramics, paintings, and other antique-inspired objects. The production team also employed 3D graphics to recreate certain landscapes and portrayals of Vietnamese people. Phuong Trinh Jolie, whose real name is Nguyen Ngoc Phuong Trinh, is 38 years old and hails from An Giang province. She won first prize at the An Giang Television Singing Contest in 2002 and the special prize at the Ho Chi Minh City Television Singing Stars contest four years later. In 2017, she also won first prize in the "Hay Nghe Toi Hat" (Listen to Me Sing) competition. In addition to singing, she has acted in numerous television dramas such as "Bo Cap Tim," "Me Chong Nang Dau," "Hoa Phu Dung," "Ke Thu Giau Mat," and "Gia Dinh La So Mot." She and actor Ly Binh married in April 2022 after four years of dating.
