Cambodia Inspects Progress of Irrigation Projects in Takeo Province

H.E. Chhun Puttharith, Director General of Technical Affairs and Head of the Project Inspection Unit of the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, led a technical team and specialized officials from the Engineering Department on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, to inspect and evaluate the progress of canal rehabilitation and reservoir construction projects within the districts of Koh Andet, Bati, and Tram Kak in Takeo Province. The projects inspected on this occasion included: 1. Rehabilitation Project of Main Canal No. 90 (Phase 1): Located in Krapum Chhuk Commune, Koh Andet District. Major works included the rehabilitation of 4,000 meters of main canal and the construction of 6 structures (two sluice gates, one cross-drainage culvert, one road culvert, and one 100 cm cross-section culvert). Work progress has reached 100%. 2. Rehabilitation Project of Poung Muy Main Canal: Located in Komar Reachea Commune, Bati District. Major works included the rehabilitation of two main canals with a total length of 4,750 meters and the construction of 15 structures (six 80 cm cross-section drainage culverts, three 100 cm cross-section water intake culverts, two bridge culverts, one drainage culvert, and three sluice gates). Work progress has also reached 100%. 3. Construction Project of Techo Sen Military Technical Institute Reservoir: Located in Trapeang Kroeng Commune, Tram Kak District. Major works included the construction of a reservoir embankment with a height of 12 meters, a crest width of 14 meters, and a length of 130 meters, along with the construction of 2 structures (one culvert and one spillway), ensuring validity for 12 months. H.E. the Director General expressed his admiration and high appreciation for the accomplished work, urging the engineering department's project implementation team to continue paying close attention to technical standards to ensure quality, safety, and aesthetics, and to promote efficient work execution according to plan for long-term usability and sustainability. These infrastructure improvements are crucial for enhancing agricultural productivity and ensuring food security in Takeo Province, a vital agricultural region of Cambodia. The successful completion of these projects is expected to bolster the livelihoods of local farmers by providing reliable access to water for irrigation.
