Vietnam Accelerates International Cooperation in Energy and Infrastructure Investment
Vietnam is deepening cooperation with international partners on projects such as LNG power plants, port development, and high-speed rail. The country is accelerating the adoption of renewable energy and LNG, aiming to balance economic growth with environmental goals. Efforts are also underway to improve the investment climate and attract foreign capital.
Vietnam is accelerating the enhancement of international cooperation in the energy and infrastructure sectors. In particular, it is deepening collaboration with foreign companies across a wide range of fields, including liquefied natural gas (LNG) thermal power plants, port development, and future high-speed rail projects. This is part of Vietnam's strategy to address increasing energy demand and achieve its sustainable development goals. Recently, an investment agreement for the Ca Na LNG-fired power plant and the Ca Na Wharf Complex (Phase 1) was signed, totaling approximately 60 trillion VND (about 2.3 billion USD). This marks a significant energy infrastructure project in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa. Furthermore, a meeting was held with Russia's Novatek Group to accelerate cooperation on LNG projects and energy development, indicating an effort to diversify and stabilize energy supply sources. In terms of infrastructure investment, the importance of parallel runway expansion at Phu Quoc International Airport, terminal upgrades, and technology transfer for the North-South high-speed railway project has been emphasized. These projects are expected to contribute to the promotion of Vietnam's tourism industry and the efficiency of domestic logistics. The emphasis on technology transfer for high-speed rail, in particular, suggests that Vietnam aims not only to be a recipient but also to enhance its technological capabilities. A stable investment environment is crucial for sustained economic growth. Vietnam is creating opportunities to explain its macroeconomic outlook, fiscal and monetary policy direction, and public debt management plans to international investors. A session themed "Investing in Vietnam – Rising in a New Era" was held at the Asia Securities Forum Annual General Meeting, introducing investment opportunities in Vietnam. This demonstrates Vietnam's ambition to gain the trust of international capital markets and pursue further economic development. Under its one-party system, the Vietnamese government has prioritized economic growth and actively sought foreign investment. Since the Doi Moi policy in 1986, Vietnam's economy has achieved remarkable growth, significantly contributing to poverty reduction and improved living standards. However, rapid economic growth has also created new challenges, such as increased energy demand and environmental issues. Therefore, the Vietnamese government is striving for sustainable development through the adoption of renewable energy and the development of infrastructure that meets international standards. While economic interdependence with China is deep, geopolitical tensions, including those in the South China Sea, also exist, prompting Vietnam to navigate its foreign policy by seeking a balance to maximize national interests.
