UN Human Rights Expert to Visit Cambodia to Assess Human Rights and Border Disputes

Tom Andrews, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Cambodia, will undertake an official visit to the country from July 20 to July 31, 2026. The visit aims to assess the human rights situation within Cambodia. According to a post on the United Nations Human Rights in Cambodia Facebook page on July 19, during his visit, Mr. Andrews will evaluate the human rights situation in Cambodia, including issues related to human trafficking, border disputes, freedom of expression, freedom of association, and peaceful assembly, as well as the rights of vulnerable groups. The Special Rapporteur is scheduled to meet with government officials, local authorities, representatives of civil society, victims and survivors of abuses, and other stakeholders. In addition to meetings, the Special Rapporteur will visit Phnom Penh, Banteay Meanchey province, and Siem Reap province. A press conference will be held by the UN human rights expert on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 2:30 PM Cambodian time at the Himawari Hotel Apartment, located on Street 313, Preah Sisowath Quay, Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Attendance is restricted to accredited journalists. Following his visit to Cambodia, the Special Rapporteur will present his findings in a report to the United Nations Human Rights Council in October 2026.
